January 2019 Operating Results

In January 2019, SIA Group airlines' passenger load factor (PLF) improved 2.0 percentage points to 83.1%. Passenger carriage (measured in revenue passenger-kilometres) increased 10.4% compared to last year, outpacing capacity (measured in available seat-kilometres) injection of 7.8%.

Singapore Airlines' PLF improved 2.4 percentage points to 83.5%. Passenger carriage increased 10.8% compared to last year, against a 7.6% increase in capacity. PLF improved for all route regions due to returning traffic from year-end holidays and shift of outbound Lunar New Year traffic from February 2018 to end-January 2019. RASK (revenue per available seat-kilometres) continues to remain resilient.

SilkAir's systemwide passenger carriage increased by 6.8%, ahead of capacity growth of 0.3%. Consequently, PLF increased 4.6 percentage points to 75.2%, with improvements across all route regions.

Scoot recorded passenger carriage growth of 10.2%, slightly trailing growth in capacity of 11.0%, which led to a 0.6 percentage-point decline in PLF to 84.4%. PLF improved for West Asia and Rest of World, while East Asia recorded declines as traffic did not keep pace with the increases in capacity.

Cargo load factor (CLF) was 3.8 percentage points lower, with cargo traffic (measured in freight tonne-kilometres) declining 6.2% while capacity was flat against last year. All route regions registered declines in CLF as demand did not keep pace with capacity changes.
