Flycana and Aerodom announce agreement to establish SDQ as base airport for operations

The ultra-low-cost airline Flycana and Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom), a company belonging to VINCI Airports, announced the signing of a memorandum of understanding to provide future services based on the Las Americas International Airport, José Francisco Peña Gómez (AILA-JFPG) in the city of Santo Domingo.

With this agreement Flycana defines SDQ as its base airport, from where it will operate its routes and establish its aircraft and crew. Flycana is finalizing an investment of 80 million dollars and will fly with the Air Operator Certificate (AOC) of its predecessor Dominican Wings operating with modern and efficient aircrafts for short and medium haul flights. Its operations are scheduled to begin in the third quarter of 2019.

The Founder and the President of Flycana, Victor M. Pacheco Méndez commented: "We are very excited to announce the selection of Las Americas International Airport, JFPG, as the base airport for our operations. As Santo Domingo is the city with the largest population in the country, we know that it will be very convenient for all our passengers to fly from SDQ located just a few minutes from the city center, but also connect to the beach destinations in La Romana and Punta Cana".

Flycana will be the first ultra-low cost airline in the Caribbean, with plans to provide nonstop services to more than 50 destinations in the United States, Mexico, South America, Central America and the Caribbean. Flycana is led by a board and management team with extensive experience in low cost airlines.

Aeropuertos Dominicanos Siglo XXI (Aerodom) is an airport operator in the Dominican Republic that holds the concession to operate six airports in the country, due in 2030. It manages an average of five million passengers annually traveling to 58 cities around the world. Since 2016, the company is part of the leading international airport group VINCI Airports.

The Las Americas International Airport - José Francisco Peña Gómez is the main air terminal of the Dominican Republic because of its location and ranks second in the flow of regular passengers in the country. In 2018, Aerodom announced the implementation of important infrastructure improvements as part of an aggressive modernization and optimization plan that seeks to improve the passenger experience, facilitate exports and offer the best entry doors to the Dominican Republic.
