In February 2020, SIA Group airlines' passenger carriage (measured in revenue passenger-kilometres) fell by 17.0% compared to last year as overall travel demand was severely impacted by the COVID- 19 outbreak. The capacity (measured in available seat-kilometres) for the same period was down 2.4%, leading to a 12.1 percentage point decrease in passenger load factor (PLF) to 69.1%.

Singapore Airlines' PLF declined by 13.0 percentage points year- on -year to 67.4%. Passenger carriage decreased 12.5% compared to last year, against a 4.3% increase in capacity. PLF declined for all route regions, in particular for the East Asia route region, as loads on Mainland China and Hong Kong routes were severely impacted.

SilkAir's systemwide passenger carriage decreased by 37.8% against a 20.1% decrease in capacity. This led to a 17.2 percentage point decline in PLF to 60.6%. All route regions recorded declines in PLF. During the month, capacity to Mainland China was significantly reduced, as SilkAir suspended services to Chengdu, Xiamen and Shenzhen.

Scoot recorded passenger carriage decline of 25.9% against a capacity contraction of 20.4%, which led to a 5.9 percentage point decrease in PLF to 79.4%. All route regions registered declines in PLF due to a fall in travel demand. All services to Mainland China were suspended from 8 February 2020.

Cargo load factor (CLF) was 3.5 percentage points higher with growth in cargo traffic (measured in freight tonne-kilometres) of 8.6% exceeding 2.1% expansion in capacity. East Asia and Americas registered improvements in CLF.

Since the start of February 2020, the SIA Group has progressively announced flight cuts across the network as it adjusts capacity to match demand changes arising from the spread of COVID-19 across the globe. Market conditions have continued to deteriorate in March and, with WHO declaring COVID-19 a pandemic and multiple countries issuing travel advisories and restrictions, travel demand is expected to weaken significantly in the near term.
