ESENBOGA AIRPORT’S CAPACITY RISES TO 30 MILLION

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu announced that they have come to an end in the 1st Stage of Esenboğa Airport Capacity Increase works and said, "We plan to complete the 3rd runway, which will increase the passenger capacity to 30 million, as well as the new tower building and service buildings in the first quarter of 2025."

Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu made a statement regarding the works carried out within the scope of increasing the capacity at Esenboğa Airport. Minister Uraloğlu , who stated that they have come to the end of the first phase of the modernization project that they started in two stages in order to ensure that Esenboğa Airport can easily serve the increasing passenger and aircraft traffic, said, "We have achieved 98 percent physical progress in the works we started within the scope of the 1st Stage works."

3rd Runway Will Increase Passenger Capacity to 30 Million

Providing information about the Esenboğa Airport 1st Stage works, Minister Uraloğlu said, "As part of the works we initiated to make our airport capable of meeting the needs of the age and to ensure that our capital Ankara has a facility worthy of world capitals, we have come to the end of the construction of the third runway that will increase the capacity to 30 million passengers. We will make our new runway ready for service after the strip works and arrangement works."

Target First Quarter of 2025

Minister Uraloğlu , who noted that they have largely completed the construction of new service buildings, said , "We aim to complete the third runway, Technical Block, ARFF Station, DHMİ Special Purpose Vehicle Garage and Flight Control Hangar Building, Heating Center and Water Tank, Aircraft Wastewater Treatment Facility, Special Lighting Systems Maintenance Building, Cargo Development Areas, Cargo Apron, Connection Taxiways, Customs Directorate Building and parking lots in the first quarter of 2025."

Terminal Building to Expand to 40 Thousand Square Meters

Minister Uraloğlu noted that they had increased the capacity of Esenboğa Airport to 20 million passengers in the past years, but that this was insufficient at this point and continued his words as follows:

"With the investments we have made in the field of aviation, the airline has become the way for the people. Our citizens have started to prefer airlines more frequently for their travels. While we continue to build new airports, we also continue to modernize our current airports to meet the needs of the age. With the 2nd Stage works that we will start within the scope of Esenboğa Airport capacity increase, we will expand the terminal building to 40 thousand square meters. With the third runway and a larger terminal building, our airport will be able to respond to the increasing passenger traffic much more easily."
