CPH: More than 2.4 million passengers in July

12-Aug-2013

Copenhagen Airport surpassed the 2.4 million passenger mark for the first time ever in a single month as traffic in July increased by almost 5% year on year and brought the year-to-date increase to 2.6%.

A total of 2,426,424 passengers travelled through Copenhagen Airport in July, an increase of 4.9%. This marked the first time ever that the passenger numbers of a single month exceeded 2.4 million.

"In spite of the good weather throughout July and a minor decline of 15,000 passengers on charter flights, more passengers than ever before flew out of Copenhagen during this holiday period, and the number of passengers on scheduled flights was 130,000 higher than in July of last year. In other words, traffic increased in largely all categories," said Copenhagen Airport CEO Thomas Woldbye.

The number of international passengers was up by 4.2%, whereas the number of domestic passengers was up by 16.1% and transfer passengers by 4.3%. Moreover, the number of intercontinental passengers rose by a full 10.0%, thanks not least to the new SAS service to San Francisco and increased capacity on other intercontinental routes, including on Air Canada to Toronto. The increase in international and intercontinental traffic is in line with CPH's strategic focus.

Among the top-10 destinations, London grew by an impressive 11.1% in July, partly because easyJet has added an early morning flight to Gatwick and a late evening flight from Gatwick to Copenhagen to its schedule.
