CPH: Busy month of August concludes record summer

11-Sep-2013

This was Copenhagen Airport's busiest summer ever. A total of 7,037,210 passengers travelled through the airport over the three summer months; as yet another record was set in August with growth reaching 6.4%. The year-to-date increase in passenger numbers is 3.2%.

2,280,830 passengers travelled from, to or through Copenhagen Airport in August, representing a 6.4% year-on-year increase.

"We had a very busy summer, but thanks to our extension of Terminal 2 with an additional 1,400 square metres and new check-in kiosks and counters we were able to service the growing passenger numbers. The inevitable queues forming on busy summer days were shorter and were discharged more quickly than previously. We are pleased that our major investments in the airport expansion are paying off" said Thomas Woldbye, CEO of Copenhagen Airport.

The number of international passengers rose by 6.4%, in part driven by the strong growth by Norwegian and easyJet. Transfer traffic grew by 10.3%. The number of domestic passengers rose by 7.0%, which reflects the full-year effect of the many new routes and frequencies introduced by the airlines since the Cimber Sterling bankruptcy in May 2012.

All three summer months of June, July and August brought passenger records, boosting total passenger numbers for the summer of 2013 to a record 7,037,210 - a year-on-year increase of 356,465.
