06-Nov-2017 On November 2-3, CAAC Deputy Administrator Dong Zhiyi led a delegation to Fiji, held bilateral aviation talks with the Fiji counterpart, and exchanged views on how to strengthen civil aviation ties between the two countries with Sharvada Sharma, Deputy Solicitor-General and Acting Permanent Secretary for Civil Aviation of Fiji. The two sides introduced the civil aviation development and policies on international air transport in their respective countries, exchanged relevant policies and measures on the opening of long-haul international routes, and reached consensus on continuous consultation on bilateral air traffic rights arrangement and constant enhancement of exchanges and cooperation in various fields of civil aviation. During the visit, Dong Zhiyi made a survey of the air transport market development and support capabilities of civil aviation infrastructure in Fiji and operations of Fiji airlines.

Fiji is a key linking point on the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road. In November 2014, President Xi Jinping paid a state visit to Fiji, and announced a strategic partnership featuring mutual respect and common development with Pacific island countries including Fiji. Currently, China has become the fastest growing country for Fiji in terms of outbound tourist visits, and as a result, the air transport market between the two countries is rapidly expanding.
