Berlin air traffic back on track for growth in May-2010
1,965,862 passengers were recorded at the Berlin airports in May, 7.4 per cent more than in the same month the previous year.
A total of 8,048,264 million passengers were handled in the first five months of 2010, 1.4 per cent more than in the same period the previous year. Following a considerable number of flight cancellations in April due to air space closures, traffic figures at the Berlin airports are back on track for growth in May.
Schoenefeld Airport recorded 641,679 passengers in May, representing an 11.9 per cent increase.
1,324,183 passengers were recorded in Tegel in the same period, representing a 5.4 per cent increase. This growth was fuelled by Air Berlin: in early May, the airline expanded its European route network, including more connecting flights and increasing flight frequencies.
Schoenefeld and Tegel combined recorded 21,126 flight movements, representing another positive result compared to the same month last year (+1.7 per cent).
Air freight flown recorded strong growth in May, increasing by 30.0 per cent to 2,210 tons. This represents a year-on-year increase of 27 per cent between January and May.
