24-Oct-2014 Officials leading the development of new air service in Pikeville today confirmed the launch of Appalachian Air's first flight, which will depart Pikeville on Monday, October 27, 2014 at 6:30 AM EDT. The first flight will arrive a little over an hour later at Nashville International Airport (BNA) at 6:55 AM CDT.

The new service will be operated by Public Charters, Inc. (PCI) of Avoca, PA and Corporate Flight Management (CFM) of Smyrna, TN, dba Appalachian Air (FAA: 14 Part 135; DOT 14 C.F.R. Part 298 Commuter) in accordance with 14 C.F.R. Part 380 public charter regulations. CFM will serve as the direct air carrier and will be responsible for all flying aspects of the service. CFM holds the highest safety rating in its class and is the largest operator of the BAE Jetstream J32 in the U.S., the aircraft which will be used on the Pikeville - Nashville route. PCI will serve as the indirect air carrier and will be responsible for ticketing and ground services.

"After nearly four years of planning, recruiting, meetings, teleconferences, addressing regulatory hurdles, etc., on the part of our community and air service partners, we are ready to launch the very first commercial air flight from Pikeville and Eastern Kentucky," said Luke B. Schmidt, President of L.B. Schmidt & Associates, LLC, the Louisville-based consulting firm that has been facilitating the development of air service in Pikeville for the City of Pikeville, the Pikeville - Pike County Airport Board, and the Southeast Kentucky Chamber of Commerce. "Everything is set and we are ready to welcome our first passengers on board the Jetstream J32," Schmidt continued.

Appalachian Air will launch the service with one daily roundtrip (the return flight departs BNA at 4:30 PM CDT and arrives back in Pikeville at 6:55 PM EDT). The Appalachian Air aircraft will overnight each night at the Pikeville - Pike County Regional Airport.

"Corporate Flight Management and our partner, Public Charters, Inc., are pleased to start this new service," said Allen Howell, CEO, Corporate Flight Management. "Our two teams have been working closely with our local partners in Pikeville and we are ready to launch on Monday. We know that our passengers are going to love flying the Jetstream J32 and will appreciate the aircraft's many amenities," said Howell.

Travelers can start planning their trip by first visiting the Appalachian Air web site (www.appalachianair.com). Travelers can book round trips from Pikeville (airport code PVL) to Nashville, if Nashville is their final destination, or, book flights on Appalachian Air to Nashville and then book a second trip and connect to any of the eight airlines that serve Nashville International Airport (airport code BNA) to over 50 nonstop destinations.

Promotional Fares

As previously announced, Appalachian Air is launching its new service with a very competitive promotional fare. In order to secure the promotional fare, passengers must take the following into account:

  • Passengers must book a round trip between Pikeville and Nashville (this can be combined with an additional itinerary for passengers traveling beyond Nashville)
  • Passengers MUST book their Pikeville - Nashville - Pikeville segments directly on either the appalachianair.com or publiccharters.com web sites
  • Passengers MUST use the promotional code which is prominently featured throughout the Appalachian Air web site when booking their Pikeville - Nashville - Pikeville segment
  • In order to secure the promotional fare, travel must be booked no later than November 30, 2014 and travel must commence no later than April 13, 2015

The Appalachian Air web site is easy to use. Visitors to the site can book a trip in a matter of minutes. The web site also includes a unique Trip Cost Calculator (found on the Home page) which will quickly compare the total trip cost not only from Pikeville, but from surrounding airports. In most instances it is expected that total trip costs for passengers will be lower by flying out of Pikeville.

"This is a great day for the City of Pikeville," said Donovan Blackburn, Pikeville City Manager. "The development of commercial air service in Pikeville has been a community goal going all the way back to 1968. The City of Pikeville appreciates the commitment and the investment that both Corporate Flight Management and Public Charters have made to the city. Now we want anyone who is planning a trip by air to first consider flying Appalachian Air, no matter where you are going. Chances are you will be able to fly right out of Pikeville and avoid the six hour roundtrip drive to Lexington," Blackburn continued.
