On Jan. 12, Allegiant Air announced it will offer new nonstop service between Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport and Punta Gorda, Florida, beginning May 27. Allegiant's new seasonal service will operate twice per week, on Thursdays and Sundays, between BWI Marshall and Punta Gorda Airport. Allegiant Air first started service at BWI Marshall in April 2016.

"As we near five years of service from Allegiant, we're thrilled that the airline continues to offer new flight options for our customers," said Ricky Smith, executive director of BWI Marshall Airport. "Punta Gorda, with its history and pristine natural beauty, will be a popular destination for travelers. We welcome this added ultra-low-fare service from our partners at Allegiant."

With the new Punta Gorda route, Allegiant will now serve six markets from BWI Marshall, adding to existing service to Sarasota and Destin-Fort Walton Beach, Florida; Asheville, North Carolina; Savannah, Georgia and Knoxville, Tennessee.

As more people return to air travel during the COVID-19 recovery, BWI Marshall remains the busiest airport in the region. The airport and its partners are focused on safe and healthy travel. Customers are reminded the BWI Marshall Airport terminal remains open only to ticketed passengers and employees, and that masks or face coverings are required in the terminal.

Other health and safety initiatives at BWI Marshall include enhanced cleaning and sanitation; hand sanitizer dispensers throughout the terminal; protective barriers at security checkpoints, ticket counters and information desks; and physical distance markers in high-traffic areas. Health and safety information is provided on information displays and overhead announcements.
