Air NZ: Restrictions on the carriage of powders in cabin baggage

Restrictions on the carriage of powders in cabin baggage are now in place for all international flights from Auckland.

These restrictions will then be implemented for international flights departing Wellington, Christchurch, Queenstown and Dunedin airports from 30 July 2018.

Powder restrictions also apply to flights from London Heathrow and the Cook Islands to Los Angeles.

AVSEC will manage the additional requirements at the main screening points of New Zealand international ports.

What's changing?

  • Inorganic powders including salt, sand and some talcum products will be limited to a collective 350mls in volume or 350g in weight.
  • There are no restrictions on the carriage of organic powder materials such as baby formula and protein powder.
  • Other powders exempt from the restrictions include most cosmetics, medical or therapeutic products and cremated remains (ashes).
  • There are no restrictions for the carriage of powders in checked baggage.
