19-Dec-2017 Air New Zealand's 'A Very Merry Mistake' Christmas video has taken out the number two spot on Entertainment Weekly's list of 2017's best holiday commercials from around the world.

Since its release late last month, the airline's popular Christmas video has clocked up 13 million online views and been featured in a range of global media outlets.

The video shows Santa taking calls from New Zealand children however the Kiwi accent means many requests get lost in translation. A confused Santa is shown trying to fulfil a range of unusual gift requests from biscuitballs (basketballs) and puggy banks (piggy banks) to bug screen TVs (big screen TVs) and book of magic trucks (tricks). Santa's helpers - Air New Zealand's Cabin Crew - then come to the big man's aid providing some much-needed translation skills.

Air New Zealand Head of Global Brand and Content Marketing Jodi Williams says the airline has been pleased with the reaction to the video.

"We wanted to celebrate Christmas in a uniquely Kiwi way and it's been terrific seeing the response to 'A Very Merry Mistake'. To have our content recognised by Entertainment Weekly alongside leading international brands like Apple, Amazon, Macy's and Marks & Spencer is simply fantastic.

"It's been great to see many online viewers also recounting their experiences of talking to Kiwis while New Zealanders offshore have said the video has made them miss home," says Ms Williams.
