A plane named David

With all those paparazzi photos of the plane though, one secret remained under wraps - the plane name! Well, today we were thrilled to see our very first A321neo, tail number N2002J rolling out of hangar with a name celebrating the legacy of JetBlue founder, David Neeleman.

When David brought together a group of airline veterans more than 20 years ago to create JetBlue, his vision of creating a low-cost airline that would bring humanity back to air travel was an instant sensation that shook up our industry.

In the years since, both David and Dave Barger built JetBlue into one of the most recognized and awarded airline brands in the world. And we're honored to carry on that legacy and inspire humanity every day.

When you step inside the NEO, you'll see the onboard experience is inspired by the same ideas and values that were important to David and our founders when they first made seatback TV and customer comfort a priority - only now, it's fully updated for the next 20 years with the latest inflight entertainment technology, connectivity on every flight, incredible space and seat comfort, and a gorgeous cabin design.

By the way, it's not just David's name that appears on the plane. That eye-catching new tail design was a collaborative effort between JetBlue's design team and David himself! The pattern, dubbed "balloons," includes five different colored balloons, representing the values which were selected by David and our founders long before JetBlue even had a name. Having David design the tail of the A321neo and dedicating the first one to him is our way of honoring his legacy and the impact he has made on JetBlue and our crewmembers.

The aircraft is nearing final certification and will go into scheduled service this September. We look forward to sharing details about the aircraft and its future routes in the weeks ahead.
