About
Monroe Energy is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Delta Air Lines, and operator of the 185,000 barrel per day Trainer, PA, refinery. Monroe Energy acquired Trainer from Phillips 66 for USD180 million in Apr-2012 in a move Delta stated would save the company USD300 million in fuel costs annually. In order to maximise the refinery’s jet fuel output, Monroe Energy invested USD100 million in refinery upgrades. At the time of purchase, Delta projected the refinery would eventually produce 80% of its domestic jet fuel requirements. Trainer historically refined light sweet crudes predominantly from western Africa, yet is transitioning to a greater input of more cheaply-sourced US domestic crudes. Monroe Energy’s affiliate MIPC LLC operates almost three million barrels of storage capacity and 51.25 miles of pipeline for the initial transport of Trainer’s output.
