About

The Engine Alliance (Engine Alliance) is a 50/50 joint venture between Pratt & Whitney and GE Aircraft Systems. The company was established in 1996 to develop, manufacture, distribute and support aircraft engines for high capacity, long-haul aircraft. Pratt and Whitney and GE Aircraft Systems formed the JV in 1996 after Boeing's announcement that it was to develop a new 747 aircraft, which would require new engines and substantial investment costs. The development never materialised but Engine Alliance's GP7200 engines are today the leading engine powering the Airbus A380, with over 50% market share. The GP7200 engine is one of only two engines capable of powering the A380, and has been selected by Air France, ILFC, Emirates, Korean Air, Air Austral, and Etihad.
