About

Vlora Airport is a proposed airport development to serve the former capital of Albania, Vlora. The new airport is part of the government's plan to develop transportation links to destinations in the south of the country.


Mar-2021. Mabetex International plans to invest EUR103.5 million for Phase I construction of Vlora Airport. Phase I includes construction of a runway and terminal. Phase II includes the construction of additional business infrastructure and will require "hundreds of millions of euros". Phase I will commence in 2021 and will last 36 months.

Dec-2019. Albania's Minister for Infrastructure and Energy Belinda Balluku invited bids for a 35 year concession contract to construct, operate and maintain Vlora Airport, a new airport project on the southern coast of Albania. The airport concession will be structured under a build-operate-transfer model. Offers are invited until 12-Mar-2020, with construction expected to commence in late May-2020 and construction duration of two months.

Sep-2019. Albania's Prime Minister Edi Rama reported a draft layout for construction of Vlora Airport has been published. The airport will comprise a 3200m runway enabling passenger and freight operations with larger aircraft, and will also host aircraft MRO service operations. 

Aug-2019. Albania's government reportedly reissued a tender for an air navigation masterplan and feasibility study for construction of Vlora Airport.

Apr-2019. Albania's Ministry of Infrastructure said Cengis Construcion, Kalyon Construction and Kolin Construction withdrew from the concession to construct Vlora Airport.

Jul-2018. Türkiye's Ambassador to Albania Ahmet Joruk confirmed the first stages of construction of Vlora Airport will commence in 2018.

Jun-2018. Albania's Prime Minister Edi Rama reported construction of Vlora Airport is expected to be completed in late 2020, with negotiations with the construction consortium currently entering the final stages. The EUR100 million/USD116 million project is expected to commence in 2018, with the airport becoming the largest in Albania once completed.

Jan-2018. Albania's Prime Minister Edi Rama announced the Government received investor interest for construction of Vlora Airport. The new airport is part of the government's plan to develop transportation links to destinations in the south of the country. Mr Rama said the construction site would open in Jun-2018. 

May-2017. Albania's Government announced plans to construct a Vlora airport.
