Rampal Khan Jahan Ali Airport

Khan Jahan Ali Airport is a new airport construction project for Rampal, 20km south of the city of Khulna, Bangladesh. The project is being undertaken by the Bangladeshi government in order to increase access to the nearby Mongla Export Processing Zone (EPZ), Mongla Economic Zone, Mongla Port and Rampal power plant as well as provide access to local tourism attractions. Subject to approval, construction is expected to commence in Jul-2015 and hoped to be complete by Jun-2018. Approximately 160ha of land is to be acquired for the airport, with the project expected to cost BDT5.44 billion (USD70 million).

Feb-2018. Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) is expected to complete the Rampal Khan Jahan Ali Airport development project by the end of 2018.

Feb-2017. Bangladesh's Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reported land acquisition process is proceeding for Rampal Khan Jahan Ali Airport.

Aug-2016. Rampal Khan Jahan Ali Airport’s construction will likely resume in 2017 according to Bagerhat Deputy Commissioner Jahangir Alam after a large sum of funds are released for the project. Total cost of construction is estimated around BDT5.4 billion (USD69.4 million). Runway construction may be extended from 2134m to 3253m.

Jun-2016. Bangladesh Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon said Rampal Khan Jahan Ali Airport development project is the 11th project to be included under the government’s list of priority projects for FY2017.

May-2015. Bangladesh's Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) approved the Rampal Khan Jahan Ali Airport construction project. The project is expected to cost BDT5.44 billion (USD70 million), of which Bangladesh's Government will contribute BDT4.9 billion (USD63 million) and the Bangladesh Civil Aviation Authority will provide BDT540 million (USD6.9 million). Construction is expected to be complete by Jun-2018.
