Pearl River Delta International Airport, also know as New Foshan Airport and New Guangzhou Airport, is a proposed airport construction project which will serve Gaoming District, Foshan, Guangdong Province, China.


Apr-2024. China's Guangdong Province reported the construction of 'Pearl River Delta Hub (Guangzhou New) Airport' is scheduled to commence in 2024. The airport will be located in Foshan's Gaoming district and the first construction phase will include one 3800m x 45m runway, one 3600m x 45m runway, a terminal and supporting facilities. The new airport is expected to handle 30 million passengers p/a by 2035 and over 60 million passengers p/a by 2050.

Mar-2021. CAAC approved the site selected by Guangdong Province for the development of New Foshan Airport. The site is located in Gaoming District in Foshan, approximately 95km from Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport. New Foshan Airport will be equipped with two runways and terminal facilities to accommodate up to 30 million passengers p/a by 2035.

May-2018. Foshan City Government reportedly completed the site selection process for the New Foshan Airport project and plans to commence preliminary construction works by the end of 2018. The airport will be equipped with three runways and is expected to support domestic and international passenger and cargo operations.

Jan-2018. New Foshan Airport and New Zhanjiang Airport plans to commence construction in 2018, expecting to complete in three years.

Jun-2017. Guangdong party secretary Hu Chunhua confirmed plans to construct New Foshan Airport in the Gaoming district of the Pear River Delta region by 2022. The planned airport will require an investment of CNY35 billion (USD5.1 billion) and is expected to accommodate 30 million passengers per year upon completion. 

Feb-2018. Guangzhou Municipal State Planning Commission reported the second Guangzhou Airport will be located in Zhengguo Town of Zhengcheng, according to the "Guangzhou city master plan 2017-2035" draft released on 24-Feb-2018.

Mar-2015. Guangdong Provincial Development and Reform Commission director Li Chunhong stated Guangzhou's second airport site has not yet been determined, but may fall in the Foshan and Yunfu junction area.

Dec-2014. Yunfu Mayor Zhuo Zhiqiang said a plan to construct an airport in the area between Yunfu and Foshan has been submitted to the National Development and Reform Commission for approval. Mr Zhuo said the planned airport will help boost the economy of the western area of Guangdong, which, compared with the booming Pearl River Delta, lags behind in economic development. No other details are known.

Oct-2013. China's Foshan Municipal Party Committee Secretary Li Yi Wei stated the city along with Jiangmen, Zhongshan, Yunfu and Zhaoqing cities have jointly submitted an application to the provincial government supporting the construction of the proposed second Guangzhou Airport in Foshan Gaoming.

Aug-2013. China's Guangdong Province Yunfu City Party Secretary Huang Qiang stated the city recently recommended to the provincial government to construct the proposed Foshan Airport (second Guangzhou Airport) in Foshan Gaoming to which the provincial government expressed support.

Jan-2013. China's Guangzhou Urban Planning Bureau announced the site of the second Guangzhou Airport will be located in Nansha District's Sanmindao.
