About

New Khartoum Airport is an under construction airport located 40km south of Khartoum, Sudan. The airport is designed to eventually replace Khartoum International Airport with an initial passenger capacity of six million p/a in the first phase, nine million in the second phase, and 12 million passengers p/a in the third and final phase. Development plans include two runways, a passenger terminal and an airport hotel. The estimated cost is USD1.15 billion.


Jun-2021. Sudan's Minister of Transport Eng Mirghani Mousa resumed talks with Turkey based construction firm Summa to facilitate the resumption of works on New Khartoum Airport. Summa chairman Selim Bora said it was agreed that the project will be resumed, and be completed as soon as possible, and Sudan's Prime Minister Abdallah Hamdok requested the previous MoU be reviewed.

Oct-2018. Türkiye based construction firm Summa said it has been selected for construction of New Khartoum Airport. Summa chairman Selim Bora said the foundation for Khartoum International Airport will be launched in 1Q2019, and will be completed in less than 36 months. The project is valued at USD1150 million, with capacity for up to 12 million passengers p/a in its third phase. The first phase will be delivered with a capacity of six million, the second phase with nine million until complete expansion to 12 million.

Dec-2014. Sudan's Ministry of Finance and the Export-Import Bank of China signed a USD700 million development loan deal to finance the development of the new Khartoum International Airport. The 20-year loan includes a five year grace period and an interest rate of 2.5% p/a. The new airport will have capacity for seven million passengers p/a.

Jan-2014. Sudan Airports Holding Co signed a USD680 million agreement with China Harbour Engineering Co at the Bahrain International Airshow for the construction of the second phase of Khartoum New International Airport.
