New Dodoma Msalato International Airport

Msalato International Airport is a proposed development to serve the capital of Tanzania, Dodoma. The existing airport, Dodoma Airport, is within the municipality and is subject to expansion restrictions. The new Msalato Airport is expected to complement Dodoma Airport's operations. Tanzania's Government signed a contract on 13-Sep-2021 for the construction of New Dodoma Msalato International Airport. The government will contribute TZS127 billion (USD54.74 million) for the project, which will also be supported by a USD329.47 million loan agreement between the government and the African Development Bank. Construction will be undertaken in two phases, with the first phase covering construction of the runway and terminal, which is expected to take 36 months. The second phase will be implemented based on demand, within 20 years of completing the first phase. Once complete, the airport will have capacity for 1.5 million passengers p/a.

May-2026. Tanzania Airports Authority reported the New Dodoma Msalato International Airport project reached 85% completion for infrastructure and 72% for building construction. The airport will feature a Class 4E runway and a terminal with capacity for 1.5 million passengers p/a. Phase one is valued at TZS165 billion (USD63.26 million) and phase two is valued at TZS194 billion (USD74.38 million). The project is being implemented in partnership with the African Development Bank.

Nov-2022. Tanzania National Roads Agency announced the foundation stone for the construction of Dodoma Msalato International Airport was laid on 30-Oct-2022. Construction is scheduled to be complete in Dec-2024. The project is being financed through a USD329.64 million loan supported by Tanzania's Government and the African Development Bank.
