About

New Costa do Descobrimento International Airport is a proposed construction project to be located in Santa Cruz Cabrália. The new airport will replace the existing Porto Seguro Airport which can no longer be expanded.


Sep-2023. Brazil's Bahia Province Governor Jerônimo Rodrigues said the Government is preparing a USD1.53 billion public-private-partnership contract for the construction and operation of New Costa do Descobrimento International Airport. The airport will feature a 48,000sqm terminal, 3000m runway and an apron with 27 aircraft parking spaces.

Jul-2023. Bahia State's Government presented the concession project for New Costa do Descobrimento International Airport with the aim of attracting national and international investors to construct and manage the airport. The airport is expected to handle four million passengers p/a initially, with expansion work planned for the future. BRL7.6 billion (USD1.5 billion) will be invested in the project. 

Mar-2023. Brazil's Bahia State Government invited bids for a partner for the public private partnership (PPP) construction and concession of New Costa do Descobrimento International Airport. The airport will feature a 48,000sqm terminal, 3000m x 45m runway and apron with capacity to park 27 aircraft, with investments projected at BRL1.3 billion (USD261.8 million). The winning bid will be announced in Jul-2023, with the concession term to last 30 years.

Jan-2022. Brazil's Ministry of Infrastructure, in collaboration with the Bahia State Government, launched a public consultation on New International Airport of Costa do Descobrimento's construction project. Proposed features of the airport, to be located in Santa Cruz Cabrália, include:

  • 30,000sqm terminal, with potential to expand to 40,000sqm;
  • 2400m x 45m runway;
  • Capacity to handle aircraft with up to 220 passengers.

The estimated duration of the work is five years. A public hearing on the project will be held in the second half of Jan-2022.
