Caxias do Sul Serra Gaúcha Airport is an airport development project headed by Brazil's Rio Grande do Sul State Government. The federal government is expected to fund the USD95 million development, to be constructed at the Vila Oliva district.
Oct-2026. Brazil Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor) signed a service order marking the start of construction works at New Caxias do Sul Serra Gaúcha Airport. Details include:
- The first stage of the project has a planned investment of around BRL146.3 million (USD29.12 million) and the project is fully financed by resources from the National Civil Aviation Fund. The total investment foreseen in a commitment agreement between the Federal Government and the Municipality of Caxias do Sul is BRL200.6 million (USD39.92 million). The expected execution period is 36 months;
- The new airport aims to overcome the expansion limitations of Caxias do Sul Airport and increase capacity to meet expected demand in the region;
- The first phase includes the construction of a 1930m x 45m runway, a taxiway, an aircraft apron with eight positions, and operational and safety structures. The project also includes drainage systems, air navigation aids, operational fencing, service roads, internal access roads and parking;
- The infrastructure will accommodate aircraft including the Boeing 737 MAX 8, A321neo, A320neo and Embraer E195-E2. The plan also ensures space for future expansions, including runway extension, parallel taxiing and structures for cargo transport, general aviation, hangars and refuelling.
