About
Hassan Gouled Aptidon International Airport is a planned new airport construction project for Ali-Sabieh, Djibouti's second largest city. Ali-Sabieh is located approximately 90 kilometres southwest of the largest city and capital, Djibouti city. The new international airport is part of a USD599 million upgrade of its air travel infrastructure launched by Djibouti's government. The Hassan Gouled Aptidon Airport project was initially planned in cooperation with China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation, but the project was suspended in Oct-2017 pending the relaunch of an international call for tenders. The airport will have capacity for 1.5 million passengers p/a and also feature a cargo terminal with capacity of 100,000 tonnes p/a that will serve as a base for air-sea transshipment logistics.
Jun-2021. Djibouti Ports and Free Zones Authority (DPFZA) announced it signed a MoU with Paris Aéroport and Egis on conducting studies, a master plan, financing and construction for the new Al Haj Hassan Gouled Aptidon International Airport. The studies and master plan will be financed through the French Government's Fonds d'études et d'aide au secteur privé (FASEP).
Oct-2017. Djibouti's Ports and Free Zones Authority chairman Omar Hadi stated the country is retendering the construction contract for two airports, previously granted to China Civil Engineering Construction Corp. The contracts covered both Ahmed Dini Ahmed International Airport and Hassan Gouled Aptidon International Airport.

26-Jan-2015.Djibouti President Ismaïl Omar Guelleh laid the first stones in the construction of Hassan Gouled Aptidon International Airport on 24-Jan-2015. This and another new airport; Ahmed Dini Ahmed International Airport, will complement Djibouti’s existing USD5 billion, multiple seaport investment plan.
