The Republic of San Marino is an enclaved sovereign state located on the Adriatic side of central Italy, between regions of Emilia-Romagna and Marche. The state is governed by the Constitution of San Marino, and is the fifth smallest country in the world. San Marino is not a member of the Schengen Region, however it has an open border policy with the European Union and its sole currency is the Euro (previously the Sammarinese lira). San Marino does not have an airport, but the Torraccia airfield serves as the only airfield and helipad in the republic. The nearest international airport to the sovereign state is Federico Fellini International Airport in Rimini, Italy.
