This island country in the South Pacific Ocean is reliant heavily on the tourism industry (as well as the fishery and agriculture) for economic development. It is only served by Air New Zealand which flies to Niue once a week, taking over from Polynesian Airlines which stopped flying in November 2005. The main gateway into Niue is Naue International Airport (IUE) also known as Hanan International Airport. Air transport technology and infrastructure is poorly advanced, as Niue is a fairly small island nation with a small population. Niue does not have an aviation authority of its own, relying on New Zealand’s Civil Aviation Authority for air transport services and regulations.
