This subregion of Oceania is comprised thousands of small islands in the western Pacific Ocean. Inter-island flights are crucial to maintaining social connection, and these are facilitated by United Airlines (formerly Continental Micronesia) and Nauru Airlines, which provide scheduled flights to Chuuk International Airport (TKK), Kosrae International Airport (KSA), Pohnpei International Airport (PNI) and Yap International Airport (YAP). Commercial air services to Micronesia are rather limited due to the small size of the population and tourist traffic, making United Airlines the only carrier in the region. Some of the destinations United Airlines provides flights to include Guam, Honolulu, Kosrae, Kwajalein, Majuro and Pohnpei. The Civil Aviation Authority for compliance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) is the authority responsible for the aviation industry in the islands of Micronesia.
