The country of Malawi is a poorly developed nation, but despite this it has 39 airports, 6 of which have paved runways. Air Malawi is the national airline of the country and is wholly owned by the Malawi Government. The airline’s main base of operation is Chileka International Airport (BLZ), from which it operates regional passenger services to six destinations including Johannesburg and Nairobi. Some of the carriers that service Malawi include South African Airways, Ethiopian Airlines and Kenya Airways. Malawi's Department of Civil Aviation is the government body in-charge of aviation standards and regulations in the country.
