Christmas Island is a territory of Australia, located in the Indian Ocean. There are four flights weekly operated by Virgin Australia to Christmas Island Airport departing from Perth - Western Australia, and also a weekly charter flight departing from Malaysia. The airport is owned by the Department of Transport and Regional Services, however it is operated by PDL Toll. Christmas Island's population is approximately 1400 and thus the limited air services available to the Island. Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) as well as Airservices Australia are the two bodies in charge of regulating the air transport industry in Christmas Island.
