Istanbul Sabiha Gökçen International Airport serves the city of Istanbul, Turkey. Sabiha Gökçen International is located 35km southeast of central Istanbul. The airport was constructed in 2003 to ease the growing pressure on the larger Atatürk Airport, located in the city's west. Sabiha Gökçen International has experienced exceptional growth since its opening, attracting smaller operators and LCCs from across Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. Following the opening of Istanbul Airport (formerly Istanbul New Airport) on 29-Oct-2018, Ataturk Airport transitioned its operations to primarily MRO, general aviation and cargo services.
