Transaero Airlines
About
Headquartered in St Petersburg, OJSC Transaero Airlines was an international service operator established in 1991. Previously, Transaero was one of the largest airlines in Russia. The carrier operated an extensive domestic network as well as international services to destinations across Europe, Asia, North America and the Middle East. Its main hubs were Moscow Domodedovo Airport and Saint Petersburg Polkovo Airport, with airports in Moscow Vnukovo, Sochi and Yekaterinburg Koltsovo designated as secondary hubs.
Transaero suspended sales for its services on 01-Oct-2015, following a decision by the Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviatsiya) to revoke its AOC. The carrier planned to fulfil its obligations to passengers and continue operation of services, under the operational control and coordination of Aeroflot. The Rosaviatsiya suspended Transaero's AOC from 26-Oct-2015.
S7 Airlines shareholder Vladislav Filev, initially interested in recovering the airline, suspended plans to acquire Transaero due to an inability to gather a controlling stake share package. Encumbered shares and the presence of unresolved legal claims prevented the deal from materialising. However, S7 stated it will reconsider should it receive a controlling stake. Malaysian Investor have also expressed interest in restructuring the carrier. Russia’s Federal Anti-monopoly Service (FAS) said it did not receive any requests for acquisition of Transaero Airlines stake.
