About

Spanair was a Spanish airline based in Barcelona. Originally founded in 1986 as a joint venture between Scandinavian Airlines and a group of private investors, Spanair became a member of the Star Alliance in 2003 and in 2009 became majority owned by the Catalan Government. It operated scheduled domestic and international services within Spain and Europe as well as charter services.

On 28-Jan-2012 Spanair ceased all operations due to financial difficulties and the fall through of a rescue deal with Qatar Airways. At the time of its Bankruptcy, it was the fifth largest carrier in Spain by capacity.
