fastjet Zambia is a proposed start-up by parent airline, fastjet. The new carrier would be registered in Zambia and its tickets marketed and distributed as part of fastjet's pan-African network. The start-up had planned to launch by end-2014, offering both domestic and international services, however, fastjet said restructuring at the Zambian Department of Civil Aviation has delayed the process of securing an air operator’s certificate (AOC) for the new carrier. fastjet Zambia intended to launch in 3Q2015, initially operating three Airbus A319 aircraft. The start-up sees South Africa as one of its primary markets and is targeting traffic rights for the Lusaka-Johannesburg route. South African Airways currently operate four daily services but there is not currently a Zambian carrier on the route. fastjet Group delayed its application for an AOC in Zambia, pending further review of its network. The decision forms part of the airline's route rationalisation programme, which aims to match capacity with demand. fastjet Tanzania will continue to operate Lusaka services.
