About
The SAS Group is an airline holding company based in Stockholm and is the parent company of Scandinavian Airlines and Cimber A/S. The pan-Scandinavian group of airlines operate an extensive European network of air services as well as international services to the US, Middle-East and Asia from its main hubs at Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen and Helsinki.
Originally founded in 1951, the SAS group is headquartered on the grounds of Stockholm Arlanda Airport. The governments of Sweden, Denmark and Norway each hold shares in the company with the remaining shares listed on the Stockholm, Oslo and Copenhagen stock exchanges.
Wholly-owned subsidiaries of the SAS group include:
- Scandinavian Airlines (since 1951)
- Cimber A/S (since Feb-2015)
- SAS Connect, formerly SAS Ireland (from Dec-2017)
- SAS Link (since Apr-2022)
The SAS group also holds minority stakes in:
- Air Greenland (37.5%, since 1960)
- Estonian Air (10%, ceased in Nov-2015)
In Jun-2016, SAS sold its remaining 20% stake in Widerøe to WF Holding AS, the carrier's majority shareholder. Widerøe will continue to be a regional partner to SAS.
SAS and certain of its subsidiaries voluntarily filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in the US on 05-Jul-2022. On 30-Nov-2022, SAS announced it is aiming to complete its court supervised process in the US during 2H2023.
