United plans USD500 million note offering: Americas Share Wrap

United Airlines' shares gained 1.0% yesterday, as the carrier announced plans to offer USD500 million of senior secured notes due in 2013.

The notes will be secured by certain of United's routes, takeoff and landing slots and airport gate leaseholds utilised in connection with these routes. United intends to use the net proceeds from the offering for general corporate purposes.

Also in the US, Republic Airways' shares gained 4.8%, while Continental, United Airlines, US Airways and Delta Airways were all stronger, rising 1.9%, 1.0%, 0.4% and 0.4%, respectively.

Air Canada's shares gained 6.3% yesterday to CAD1.35 amid a stronger Canadian market. WestJet's shares were slightly weaker, slipping 0.1%.
