The battle for best fares

Premium Analysis

Amadeus’ latest financial results for 2006 reveal some

interesting points. Total bookings on the system rose 5.5% to just under half

a billion (giving it a 31% share of travel agency bookings worldwide in 2006,

up 1.7 ppts). Online bookings surged by over 25% last year, accounting for just

over 16% of the total – powered by the rise of LCCs globally. Amadeus

stated it made “significant progress” in bringing “crucial

LCC content into the system”, with travel agents now able to book a total

of 48 LCCs on the Amadeus system – or 42% of the total worldwide, according

to Amadeus’ count.
