Singapore Airlines, SilkAir to raise fuel surcharge
SINGAPORE (XFNews) - Singapore Airlines and its unit SilkAir said they will raise its fuel surcharge, partially to offset higher operating costs arising from higher jet fuel prices.
The price of jet fuel is currently hovering around 80 usd per barrel, compared to 70 usd per barrel when SIA last raised its surcharge in July, the airline said.
From next Wednesday, the surcharge for destinations in the surrounding region, excluding Kuala Lumpur, will be increased by 3 usd to 15 usd. The same surcharge will apply to Kuala Lumpur flights with effect from Sept 21.
The surcharge for all other flights will increase by 5 usd to 50 usd from next Wednesday.
Separately, SIA unit SilkAir said it is also raising fuel surcharges for its flights to India and China by 5 usd to 50 usd effective next Wednesday. The surcharge for all other flights will be raised by 3 usd to 15 usd.
SIA and SilkAir said they will continue to monitor the price of jet fuel and review fuel surcharges accordingly.
