SIA reports big fourth quarter profit - outlook cloudy

Singapore Airlines’ (SIA) unveiled a bumper fourth quarter

operating profit of USD220 million, up 30.8% year-on-year (for the three months

ended 31-Mar-07), as passenger load factor rose 4.1 ppts to 81.2% and yields

rose 5.7%. Capacity increased just 1.8% in the quarter, but unit costs, which

edged up throughout 2006/07, rose 5.1% in the quarter to USD 5.41 cents in the

final quarter – of some concern going forward. SIA stated that “discipline

on costs will be maintained” in the current financial year. [295 words]
