Shanghai vs Incheon - resilient domestic market helps Shanghai

Passenger numbers at Shanghai's two airports, Pudong and Hongqiao, increased in the month of May-2009, defying the weaker trend at most major North Asian airports. Meanwhile, across the Yellow Sea in South Korea, Incheon International Airport followed the global trend, with reductions in both passenger numbers and cargo volume, of 15.1% and 11.7%, respectively, in the month. In Shanghai's case, the presence of a resilient domestic market is playing dividends for its airport system, while international markets are growing again - off last year's very low base.
