Second Sydney Airport site to be picked after next election

Analysis

Australian Transport and Infrastructure Minister, Anthony Albanese, has delayed a decision on the proposed site for a second airport, to relieve capacity constraints on Sydney Airport, until 2011.

The government today published its aviation White Paper, which rules out the use of the Badgerys Creek site for the city's second airport. A taskforce will be appointed to find an alternative site in Southwestern Sydney. A report is due in mid-2011 - well after the next Federal election.

MAp's shares surged 4.1% yesterday.

Elsewhere, Mexican airport operators had a good day, as Grupo Aeroportuario del Centro Norte (OMA) announced a MXN0.25 dividend with respect to 2008 results. OMA advanced 5.6% while GAP rose 5.8%.
