UFIS-AS completes iTrek project at Singapore Changi Airport

Analysis

UFIS Airport Solutions (UFIS-AS) confirmed (02-Jul-07) it has

successfully completed the final phase of the iTrek project at Singapore's Changi

Airport. The iTrek project uses WAP wireless mobile phones to communicate with

Singapore Airport Terminal Services (SATS) Operations Control Centre.

The system uses IBM's Webshere MQ to enable key apron and baggage staff working on the ground to receive critical real-time data related to arrival and departure flights. Using an associated web-browser-based application, they can also update timing and messaging information.

The application interfaces with SITA's Baggage Reconciliation System (BRS) to significantly enhance the BRS's functionality. Ground-based staff receive information through a vital "OK TO LOAD" alert over the wireless network, that ULDs for a given flight contain only reconciled baggage, meaning they are ready to be loaded, in conformance with ICAO Annex 17 (no luggage to travel without accompanying passenger).

The project was begun in Jun-06. The first phase, which included the actual implementation of the wireless handsets, was completed in Nov-06. The final phase, just completed, focused on application development and user training. The successful completion of the project enables ground-based operations to be more efficient by facilitating the managing and communication processes.
