SkyPlaza attracts another Hong Kong first

HONG KONG (Airport Authority Hong Kong) - Airport users will soon have even more choices of cuisines when CJ Group, Korea's largest food and food services company, opens its first-ever catering outlets in Hong Kong at Hong Kong International Airport's (HKIA) SkyPlaza this summer. The three themed eateries will also be the first restaurants from Korea ever in service at HKIA.

At today's signing ceremony with the Group, Chief Executive Officer of Airport Authority Hong Kong (AA) Dr David J Pang said, "With its catering, shopping and entertainment facilities, SkyPlaza will be a fusion point where we can provide a dynamic, unique and memorable experience for all airport users, be they air, sea and land passengers, meeters and greeters, exhibition visitors or local residents."

The three outlets, namely Morninghaz, Sarangchae and C Zen, will be located in the "Gourmet Garden" on the check-in level of SkyPlaza. A contemporary self-service and takeout cafe, the 1,200-sq-ft Morninghaz will provide a whole range of fresh organic fruit and vegetable juices, Columbian coffee, a variety of made-to-order sandwiches and freshly-baked cakes, which will be served to the finest degree, catering to the needs of customers who have an uncompromising requirement on freshness.

Customers fancying a "True Korean" experience could not miss a try at the Sarangchae. The 6,200-sq-ft colorfully decorated restaurant will provide a selection of contemporary and traditional Korean grilled, stewed, fried and noodle dishes. Cultural freaks would find the time particularly well-spent with the Korean cultural events such as traditional games and dance regularly shown at the restaurant.

The 3,000-sq-ft C Zen will present the "New Noodle Culture" concept serving truly wholesome Asian noodle dishes made with healthy and natural ingredients.  It will feature a unique "Noodle Matrix" that allows customers to mix and match the types of noodles they want with a variety of sauces.

"We are delighted to see the fabulous combination of contemporary and traditional Korean dining and cultural experiences coming to SkyPlaza.   SkyPlaza will introduce a variety of exciting and innovative lifestyles for visitors all under one roof, and the CJ Group outlets are a key part of this theme," said Mr. Hans Bakker, AA's Commercial Director.

Mr. Hong Han Ki, Director, CJ Food Service Co., Limited said, "We are confident that CJ Group has made the right decision in choosing SkyPlaza for our restaurants' debut in Hong Kong.  Voted the world's best airport for the past five consecutive years, HKIA has one of the largest numbers of airport shoppers and diners with the most discerning taste.  We have no doubt that visitors to the HKIA, especially the increasing numbers from Chinese Mainland, Taiwan and other Asian countries, will appreciate the exciting variety of cuisines that SkyPlaza will bring them."

Korean star actress Park Eun-Hye and local singer Andy Hui are invited to celebrate the occasion at this ceremony, symbolizing the international and entertainment elements that SkyPlaza combines.  At the signing event, they introduced a variety of traditional Korean and Chinese new year food.

In addition to the three catering outlets under CJ Group, SkyPlaza will house a number of Hong Kong "firsts".  Travelex Finance and Travel Service Centre will be the first ever one-stop shop in Hong Kong for travel planning, insurance and money exchange. There will also be cultural products from the Chinese Mainland such as Yinghua chopsticks as well as arts and crafts products from Hangzhou.  The Jewellery Gallery by Chow Sang Sang will exhibit special award winning design pieces regularly.  Other first-time arrivals include new leather brands from the UK, Hidesign, and from Paris, Louis Quatorze, as well as Kaloo, the baby lifestyle store from France.

Scheduled for opening in the third quarter of 2006, SkyPlaza has received nearly 600 Expressions of Interest from local and overseas retail and catering brands for its 135 available outlets.  AA expects to announce the final selection of retailers in the first quarter of 2006. SkyPlaza will house the second passenger terminal and an aviation-themed shopping Mecca. It is an integral part and core development project of HKIA's SkyCity Complex that includes an international exhibition center Asia World-Expo, a 9-hole golf course, the SkyPier, a hotel and two office towers.
