Shanghai to join Star Alliance

SYDNEY (Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation) - Shanghai Airlines confirmed plans to join the Star Alliance, although a timeframe was not disclosed.

Earlier in the week, Lufthansa stated that Shanghai Airlines and Air China could join the alliance in 2006, but Air China denied it had reached a decision.

Shanghai Airlines: “With the global aviation market opening up, Shanghai Airlines hopes to grab the opportunity and expand its international routes. Joining a global alliance will help establish an international presence as our services now are mostly domestic-based”, Xu Junmin, Board Secretary.
