New-Look Tourism Awards Unveiled

ADELAIDE (South Australian Tourism)  - Nominations for the prestigious South Australian Tourism Awards are now open, with the launch today of a new-look awards system.

Tourism Minister Jane Lomax-Smith says this year's Tourism Awards will provide new opportunities to recognise and reward entrants, with the introduction of a three-tiered system.

"Depending on the standard of entry, entrants may be acknowledged with a gold, silver or bronze medal, while the entrant with the highest score in each category will continue to represent South Australia at the national awards," she said.

"South Australia has an outstanding Australian Tourism Award track record of achievement, which allows us to building an even better industry.

"South Australia. A brilliant blend is our new brand, which supports the promotion of our State's diverse array of natural attractions, food, wine and fantastic regional and city events. Against this backdrop, the South Australian Tourism Awards acknowledge achievement and set benchmarks to further improve its services and products.

"The Tourism Awards highlight the value of tourism and reinforce consumer confidence by fostering better business practices across the board - from our major attractions and festivals - to luxury accommodation and backpacker hostels.

"I encourage all tourism operators to enter our 2006 awards - not only to promote tourism excellence across the State, but also to review their own goals and achievements, build on the professionalism of their business, and showcase their success to our communities and the industry."

In total, there are 31 categories this year including tour/transport operators, wineries, tourism retailing, restaurants, events, awards for outstanding individuals, B&Bs, luxury hotels, backpacker accommodation and more.

Nominations close on 26 June and submissions are due by 21 August. The Awards Presentation and Gala Dinner will be held on Saturday 11 November at the Adelaide Convention Centre.
