Analysis

SYDNEY (Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation) - Indonesian Government confirmed its ban on foreign LCCs operating to major cities would remain, although it will continue to welcome the carriers at secondary destinations.

Indonesian Ministry of Transport: "If we open for the LCCs, we are afraid that passengers will shift from our airlines to foreign airlines. If they shift, our airlines will collapse…We are not reviewing our policies on foreign LCCs with regard to the four major cities [Denpasar, Surabaya, Medan or Jakarta]. We encourage operators to help open up the tourist markets at [23 other international airports in Indonesia]", Santoso Eddy Wibowo, Director of Air Transport.
