Indecision over Sri Lanka’s second airport continues

Ports and Aviation Minister, Chamal Rajapaksa, announced plans to shift the site of the country's proposed second international airport from Weeravila to Maththala, located in the Hambantota district. Mr Rajapaksa stated the decision was made following protests from local farmers, and environmentalists who argued the Weeravila site was too close to a Bundala bird sanctuary on the south coast.
