Finnair selects ARINC's GLOBALinkSM for SATCOM services
ARINC will provide passenger and cockpit voice service, single-number secure ground-to-air calling, and satellite data link services. All of Finnair's 35 SATCOM-equipped aircraft were cut over for service earlier this year.
"ARINC has built a strong relationship with Finnair, supporting their current VHF data link service for six years. We are extremely pleased to extend that good working relationship," stated Graham Lake, ARINC Vice President and Managing Director, Europe, Middle East & Africa. "Finnair is clearly at the forefront of voice communication developments, and we are very pleased our SATCOM technology will allow Finnair passengers to use ARINC's advanced voice services during flight."
Finnair offers scheduled flights to 50 international destinations and 16 destinations within Finland, in addition to leisure and vacation flights to more than 60 destinations. The use of ARINC's GLOBALink satellite communications will allow advanced communication services that provide real benefit to the flight deck and passenger cabin.
One of the world's oldest operating airlines, Finnair's major shareholder is the Finnish government. The Finnair Group fleet comprises approximately 65 aircraft including Boeing MD-11, Boeing MD-82/83, Boeing 757, Airbus A321, A320, and A319s. The airline served a record 8.1 million passengers in 2004, up more than 15% from 2003.
