Ferrovial surges, Aeroports de Paris and Fraport higher, Macquarie Airports drops

European airports’ shares rose yesterday as European stock markets bounced back. Ferrovial, parent of BAA, led the rise, closing up 5.2%. Fraport, Vienna Airport and Aeroports de Paris also recovered ground, rising 2.8%, 2.1% and 1.6%, respectively.

In Asia, airport shares were mixed as Asia Pacific stock markets lost ground yesterday. Macquarie Airports’ shares fell 1.3%, while Infratil fell 0.6%, ahead of today's release of May-2009 traffic at the group’s investment airports, which showed continuing declines.

Infratil’s traffic highlights in May-2009 included:

      •        Domestic: 363,309, -10.5% year-on-year;
      •        International: 45,469, -1.6%;
    •        Glasgow Prestwick: 162,495, -26.8% year-on-year;
    •        Lübeck: n/a, +28%;
  • Cargo volume:

Positive performers in Asia included Shenzhen Airport, Malaysia Airports and Auckland Airport, which rose 2.2%, 1.3% and 1.3%, respectively.
