Farewell Rome, hello Auckland?
As it was much speculated, Macquarie Airports (MAp) has finally
agreed to sell its 44.7% shareholding in Aeroporti di Roma (AdR) to Gemina for
EUR1.2 billion. The move leaves MAp with four airport investments (Sydney, Copenhagen,
Brussels and Bristol) and a large amount of capital that could be either returned
to shareholders or invested elsewhere. According to MAp CEO, Kerrie Mather,
MAp is "well placed" to continue to participate in the privatisation
of airports globally, and "we see substantial future in this area".
