Asian capacity to fall sharply in fourth quarter - OAG

Premium Analysis

Intra-Asian seat capacity is expected to fall by 13% in the fourth quarter of 2008 as airlines trim their schedules in response to rising fuel prices. The prediction, from OAG, is based on programmes submitted to date for the Winter Schedule, although some Chinese carriers are yet to file their full network plans. Several Chinese airlines are expecting the air travel market, which declined in May-08 and Jun-08, to pick up post-Olympics. If this occurs, the expected intra-Asian capacity reduction may not be as bad as expected.
