AirTran continuing to grow capacity ahead of demand

AirTran has completed its fourth consecutive month (May-2009 to Aug-2009) of weaker year-on-year load factors, while a major rejig of its East coast operations is underway. The LCC reported a 4.5% fall in passenger traffic, to 2.3 million passengers in Aug-2009, while traffic (RPMs) outgrew capacity (ASMs) cuts, down 6.1% and 3.4%, respectively, leading to a 2.4 ppts drop in load factor for the month, to 84.9%.
